    My favourite toy as a Kid was Mandrake (the magician from Defenders of the earth). So when Liam Power a Sydney based magician reached out for a personal branding shoot, I was pretty keen.
    Liam’s the real deal. He’s performed on stages across the country, has a high-profile client list and has done more than a handful of magic TV appearances, however once you meet Liam, you can’t help but feel that this is a really down-to-earth guy who’s passionate about his craft and wants to do it really well.
    With this shoot, I wanted to create something that felt magical… but still real, still human and definitely not pretentious.

    Collaborating With Creatives

    Working with other creatives is hands down one of my favourite parts of this job. There’s a kind of unspoken trust and excitement when someone says, “Let’s do something a bit different.”  Liam was all in.
    Rather than default to the typical magician clichés (you know the ones: fanned cards, dramatic pointing and smoke), I storyboarded a few concepts that would lean into his more contemporary, laid-back vibe, while still nodding to the mystery and intrigue of what he does on stage, playing cards still being a part of his acts.

    Creating Intrigue (Without the Cheese)

    We shot a series of moody, atmospheric images in the studio using light and shadow to hint at the illusion without giving it all away. The idea was more enigmatic storyteller and less birthday party wizard. But alongside those, we also captured some more grounded portraits.
    Ones that would work well for corporate events, bookings, and client pitches,
    because let’s be honest, while the mystery is cool, people also want to know who they’re working with and that you can still be fun and upbeat if that’s what’s required.
    I feel like we managed to create set of portraits that show Liam as both an entertainer and a professional. A bit cheeky, a bit slick, and also aligned with who he is, on stage and off.

    Why Personal Branding Photography Is More Than Just a Headshot
